Dr Falk Pharma Research Grant 
Purpose
The purpose of the 2027 GESA Dr Falk Pharma Research Grant is to provide funding for basic or clinical research in the field of Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC).
Grant
The Grant is for an amount up to $40,000 excluding GST. The project is to be completed within twelve months of receiving funding.
Period of the Grant
The period of the grant is 12 months commencing in January 2027.
Eligibility
The applicant is required to:
- Be an Australian citizen or hold Permanent Australian Residency.
- Be a current financial member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia defined as “being a financial member of the Society for at least one year prior to application for this grant.”
- Not have received funding under a similar GESA Grant within the last two years.
- Read, understand, and agree to all the requirements
Judging Criteria
The applications will be judged according to the following criteria:
A. 40% Research plan & Trial design
B. 30% Originality & Impact
C. 20% Track record
D. 10% Budget & Feasibility
Assessment
Applications will be assessed by the GESA Research and Grants Committee (RGC).
Reporting and Communication
Grant recipients must provide GESA with:
- A grant report at the completion of the grant to be provided to the sponsor and GESA members – GESA will provide the proforma for your report if you have a successful grant application.
- This is likely to be published on the GESA website and for other promotional uses.
- A clear explanation of how the funds were used.
- If requested, a presentation of the work at its completion at Australian Gastroenterology Week (AGW).
- Letter of thanks to sponsor if successful application.
- You may be required to participate in a press release or video presentation should your grant report be selected.
The sponsor should be acknowledged in all communications/presentations regarding the grant.
All updates, outcomes, and notification of acceptance or rejection of your application are to be received via the GESA Grants portal. You can log in at any time to view the status of your application.
Payment
Full payment of the grant funds will be made by GESA after:
- Receipt of the Letter of Acceptance of the terms and conditions;
- A Letter of Thanks to the sponsor; and
- An invoice from the sponsoring entity to be uploaded through the grants system.
Making an Application
Your application should be submitted via the GESA Grants Portal by a GESA member who is to be the grant recipient.
Log in/Register a new account via the GESA Grants Portal.
Submit the online application form and required associated documentation:
your curriculum vitae (maximum 3 pages, including publications, grants, awards etc.) which should be uploaded to My Profile in your GESA Grants Portal account.
- your full proposal which is to be uploaded via your application form on the GESA Grants Portal and which must include the following information:
- a description of the research project (maximum 2 pages).
- a description of the significance and impact of the grant (maximum 250 words).
- your role (including the name of the relevant department or unit) and the name of the sponsoring institution at which the research will be conducted.
- percentage split of clinical and research time.
- a description of up to 250 words of the organisational and operational resources that will be applied to the project, including information showing the availability of adequate support from the sponsoring institution, sufficient to allow the proposal’s overall feasibility to be adjudged.
- a signed letter of support from your department or unit head on the institution’s letterhead confirming your tenure in your nominated role (for a minimum of the 2027 calendar year) which is to be uploaded via the GESA Grants Portal.
4. All updates, outcomes, and notification of acceptance or rejection of your application is to be received via the GESA Grants portal. You log in at any time to view the status of your application.
